The structure, methods of obtaining and chemical properties of closo- and nido-carboranes are considered in this paper. Some general regularities of chemical reactions involving carborones are revealed. Variations in the physicochemical properties are also considered. Possible mechanisms of reactions with the participation of carboranes are set forth
