Evolutionary corrections to the redshift-volume measurement of the density parameter

Description

The effect of evolution on determinations of the density parameter from the distribution of galaxies in flux-redshift space is examined. The model separates galaxies into two classes, ellipticals and spirals, with different star-formation histories, and includes a crude estimate of luminosity evolution due to accretion of satellite galaxies. It is found that the recent determination of the density parameter Omega0 by Loh and Spillar (1986) is uncertain by at least Delta(Omega) = + or - 1. 21 references
