Experimental measurement of neutron and photon spectral data in the TFTR test cell basement

Description

Neutron and photon spectra produced during plasma operations and by transport through the shielding was measured in order to further the understanding of both neutron and photon transport in a tokomak fusion facility. The understanding is required so that predictions can be made of the radiation hazards to personnel and radiation damage to sensitive electronic components. Two NE-213 scintillation spectrometers were used to measure both the neutron and photon spectra in the Tokamak Fusion Test Reactor (TFTR) Test Cell Basement (TCB), as well as inside the Upper and Lower Data Acquisition Rooms (DARM's) which are part of the TFTR TCB. This paper presents the measured neutron and photon spectra and the correlation of the data with the Health Physics Program's Bonner Sphere Results. Results were obtained for 32 measurement locations in five areas, 21 of these were in the TCB, five were in the Lower DARM, three in the upper DARM, three in the Tritium Area (TA), and two were in the Safety Check Area (SCA).
