Study of the 55Mn(p,n) reaction in the proton energy range from 3.5 to 7.5 MeV

  • 1. Technische Univ., Dresden (German Democratic Republic)

Description

The mechanism of the 55Mn(p,n) reaction has been studied. The differentail cross section were measured as a function of the proton energy. The angular distributions of outgoing neutrons were also obtained at proton energies of Esub(p)=4.12 and 6.00 MeV. The experimental angular distributions prove that there is no significant contribution of the direct processes to the reaction yield. The excitation functions observe characteristic peaks brought about by an increasing number of compound nucleus decay channels with the increasing proton energy. The compound nucleus equilibrium statistical theory is concluded to provide a quite satisfactory description of the cross sections observed for the reaction in the 3.5 - 7.5 MeV proton energy range
