Structure, texture and properties of VT20 alloy worked and annealed under various conditions
- 1. Odesskij Politekhnicheskij Inst., Odessa (Ukrainian SSR)
Description
A study was made on the effect of conditions of cold rolling and heat treatmet on the structure and properties of VT-20 titanium alloy samples, fabricated by hot and warm rolling and characterized by texture of various types. It is shown that increase of reduction in area up to 35-40% may result in sample fracture due to formation of unfavourable texture. Application of rolling with pass reduction of the order of 2.5% promotes the engaging of new slip systems and enables to roll the alloy up to high total reductions. To obtain favourable structure and satisfactory strength properties it is recommended to use annealing in vacuum furnace or high-rate heating above the temperature of phase transformation with cooling in the air and successive annealing at 800 deg C
