Nuclear fuel element and manufacturing method thereof

Description

A metal oxide layer (MOx; 0.05 < x < 0.2) having a not stoichiometric composition comprising zirconium, iron, chromium, tin, nickel and oxygen is formed on an outer surface of a fuel can. With such a constitution, since a pure zirconium layer as a liner is more flexible compared with the zirconium alloy of the fuel can, a mechanical interaction between fuel pellets and the cladding tube caused by fuel burning is moderated. Further, since the metal oxide layer disposed to the outer side of the fuel can is stronger compared with the zirconium alloy, it can endure the stresses loaded on the fuel can upon high burnup degree operation.
