Interpretation of the near-threshold behavior of cross sections for e-CO2 scattering

  • 1. Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of Oklahoma, Norman, Oklahoma 73019

Description

Converged coupled-channel calculations of e-CO2 scattering have been carried out at very low scattering energies. The results are used to show that a virtual state is present in the model static-exchange-polarization e-CO2 interaction potential used in these calculations. This result provides a possible interpretation for experimental data on total, momentum-transfer, and vibrational-excitation cross sections. A scattering length of -6.17a0 is predicted
