Coming to the surface of magnetic fields and 11 year cycle of solar activity

  • 1. AN SSSR, Moscow. Fizicheskij Inst.

Description

Characteristic time of coming from the convection zone to the surface of the Sun of localized intensified fields, which are responsible for the origin of the active regions, is estimated. It is shown that in the limits of the estimation accuracy, this time coincides with the period of 11-years cycle of activity if the drag mechanism is due to the turbulent viscosity in the convection zone. For the usually used value of turbUlent viscosity νsub(t)=6x1012 cm2/s, the time of coming to the surface is about 10 years and perhaps defines the period of activity of the Sun
