Changing of surface morphology in low-carbon steel and iron under molybdenum ions bombardment
Description
The method of electron microscopy has been used to show some stages of changing tbe surface morphology in low-carbon steel and iron. ThesIe changes depend on increase of radiation dose with molybdenum ions 8x1022-2.4x1023 ion/m2 with the energy of 5 keV and the energy of 500 eV-5 keV at the dose of 2.4x1023 ion/m2. It is shown that some stages of changing the surface morphology depending on radiation dose are observed as a result of low-carbon steel and iron bombardment with molybdenum ions: ionic etching when metal grains and their structure are revealede the formation of oriented etch figures and cones. With increase of radiation dose the fluted character of the surface which is caused apparently by radiation damages of more deep layers, is formed. For the iron samples, which are subjected to bombardment at the temperature of 1173 K, the surface topography is the result of ionic and thermal etching
