Influence of rare-earth ions on the structure of water

  • 1. Pondicherry Univ. (India). Raman School of Physics

Description

The proton magnetic resonance spin-lattice relaxation times (T1) were measured in aqueous solutions of praseodymium, neodymium, gadolinium, europium and samarium chlorides. The relaxation times T1 were found to decrease with the increasing ionic concentrations in all the five solutions. The observed decrease in the values of T1 is attributed to paramagnetic and water structure making properties of rare-earth ions in these solutions. (author). 11 refs., 1 fig., 1 tab
