Channel correlations in the compound nucleus decay in the presence of direct reactions
Description
Experimental evidence for the existence of channel correlations in compound nuclear decay in the presence of direct reactions is introduced in this work. These correlations, which cannot be described with the conventional Hauser-Feshbach theory, give contributions to energy average interference terms of the fluctuating S-matrix by averaging over many fine structure resonances. This is expressed, for example, by the fact that the compound nucleus does not only contribute to the differential cross section but also to the analysing strength and polarisation. The inelastic scattering of protons on analog resonances in 91Nb was used as direct process for the investigation. (orig./WL)
Abstract (German)
In dieser Arbeit wird experimentelle Evidenz fuer das Vorhandensein von Kanalkorrelationen im Compoundkernzerfall in der Gegenwart von direkten Reaktionen vorgestellt. Diese Korrelationen, die mit der konventionellen Hauser-Feshbach Theorie nicht zu beschreiben sind, ergeben bei Mittelung ueber viele Feinstrukturresonanzen Beitraege zu energiegemittelten Interferenztermen der fluktuierenden S-Matrix. Dies aeussert sich zum Beispiel darin, dass der Compoundkern nicht nur zum differentiellen Wirkungsquerschnitt, sondern auch zur Analysierstaerke und Polarisation beitraegt. Zur Untersuchung wurde als direkter Prozess die inelastische Streuung von Protonen an Analogresonanzen in 91Nb benutzt. (orig./WL)Additional details
