Understanding the anamalous hydration dynamics of aqueous DMSO solutions by 2DIR spectroscopy

  • 1. Radiation and Photochemistry Division, Bhabha Atomic Research Center, Mumbai (India)

Description

Aqueous DMSO mixtures are known to show anomalous behaviour in different physical properties such as viscosity, freezing point etc., due to differential distribution of hydrogen bonded structures. Using metal-nitrosyl complex as a probe, we have studied hydration dynamics of these mixtures using 2DIR spectroscopy. The vibrational frequency and the lifetime shows monotonous changes with XDMSO while vibrational anisotropy and spectral diffusion studies revealed the anomalous dynamics in these mixtures. (author)
