Rear-view mirror: human factors in nuclear power

This paper will discuss the author's experience in the application of human factors principles, in the nuclear power industry, from the early 1960s to the latest efforts under way. Included in the discussion will be voluntary efforts to launch human factors forums such as the Human Factors Division of the American Nuclear Society and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers' Nuclear Power Engineering Subcommittee 7 on Human Factors and Control Facilities. Both organizations were founded, with vendor rep support, after the TMI-2 incident, and have gone to great lengths to interest the remainder of the nuclear industry in the methods and techniques of the human factors profession
