Description
The distribution coefficient (Kd) of the soil medium is a measure of its ion uptake capacity. This is an important parameter proportional to retardation factor and is employed in any transport predictions. The distribution coefficients were determined using strontium-89 for the soil samples collected from waste disposal area at Kalpakkam. It was observed that coefficient of variation (CV) for Kd at 0.3M, IM and 2M were 53.3%, 50% and 82% respectively. In this paper, the role of organic constituents on Kd has been discussed. The results of the study indicate that distribution coefficient evaluated with respect to organic matter (Koc) showed better correlation compared to Kd. (author). 1 tab
