Speeding up of the Monte Carlo method of simulation of irradiation defects
Description
An essential limitation of the Monte Carlo method is the slowness of the computer simulation calculations until now. Void nucleation and growth calculations in irradiated metal were limited to the case of small domains. A weighted method is described which extends the Monte Carlo method to the case of large domains without increasing the computing time. The size of the domains is comparable to the average distance between dislocations and an absolute value for the void density in a metal can also be obtained. By applying this model to the swelling in electrons irradiated copper, the value of the free gas concentration has been estimated. (author)
