Cooperation in the field of nuclear energy under the auspices of the International Atomic Energy Agency
Description
Some leading features of the main programs of the International Atomic Energy Agency. Besides its program of Technical Assistance consisting generally in the three usual elements - experts, grants and material - the Agency develops activities relating to the application of nuclear methods and techniques in food and agriculture, biology, and hydrology and industry. In view of the very nuclear energy an increased work should be asked from the agency in three fields: nuclear power plant safety, the problems of radioactive waste disposal and management and other incidental effects of nuclear energy on the environment. At last the application of safeguards for preventing fissile materials from being diverted towards military or non-authorized purposes will be also subject to increased work

L'expose met en lumiere quelques-unes des caracteristiques principales des grands programmes de l'A.I.E.A. Outre son programme d'assistance technique generalement compose de ses trois elements habituels - experts, bourses d'etudes et materiel - l'Agence se consacre a des activites liees a l'application des methodes et techniques nucleaires dans l'alimentation et l'agriculture, les sciences biologiques, en hydrologie et dans l'industrie. Pour ce qui est de l'energie nucleaire proprement dite un effort accru de l'Agence sera necessaire dans trois domaines: la surete des centrales nucleaires, les problemes de l'evacuation et de la gestion des dechets radioactifs et des autres incidences de l'energie d'origine nucleaire sur l'environnement. Enfin l'application de garanties visant a prevenir l'utilisation de matieres fissiles a des fins militaires ou non autorisees sera aussi l'objet d'un effort accruAdditional details
