Description
Using a generalized 1/N expansion, we show the existence of a mass-splitting phase in the U(2) Gross-Neveu model. This phase displays a remarkable structure, giving rise to interacting states of both intermediate order and disorder. The intermediate-order state is an extended fermion-antifermion pair with a spectrum labelled by an integer n, where n labels the vacuum state. (orig.)
