Description

From an exposure of the 30-inch deuterium bubble chamber at Fermilab 7600 events with three or more charged prongs are examined. Multiplicity distributions for π+n, pn, π+d and pd collisions are presented and are in general agreement with those expected based on knowledge of π-p, π+p, and pp collisions at the same energy. It is found that double scattering in the deuteron, which occurs in about 14% of events, causes at most small effects on the multiplicity distributions. (Auth.)
