Description
Conceptual design of a superconducting dipole magnet is presented here. Any distributed current zone can be derived into a large number of line currents. The magnetic field due to a arbitrary distributed current is calculated by using superposition principle. The necessary and sufficient conditions to be satisfied by current density and the arbitrary shape current distribution that produce an uniform magnetic field in the region of interest is found out. Required boundary condition is imposed on current density for dipole symmetry. It is assumed that the entire current carrying region is bounded by two families of closed surface of revolution which corresponds to the internal and external boundaries of the current carrying region, respectively. Suitable current density is obtained for a given shape of current distribution which produces uniform magnetic field. Magnetic field produced by the current distribution is obtained and it is proved that field distribution is like a dipole magnet. (author)
