SNEAK assembly 12B - Construction and experimental program
Description
The assembly SNEAK 12A is the second SNEAK assembly in which the neutron physics of disturbed material configurations, as they might occur in a postulated fast reactor accident, is investigated. The core is characterized by a central zone with fuel rods containing PuO2UO2 mixed oxide pellets. This zone is cylindrically surrounded by a buffer zone for spectral adaptation, a driver zone sufficiently reactive to maintain criticality and a radial depleted uranium blanket. The purpose of the experiments is to test calculational methods of neutron physics which are used in the accident analysis of fast breeder reactors. The report describes the construction of the core and its assemblies and their content and outlines the foreseen experimental program. It includes measurements in the clean critical core and investigations of vertical and horizontal fuel relocations and steel blockages
