The hydrogen era can finally begin: 'Trains in commercial service in 2023-2024'; Territories - Regions are mobilised; Automotive - an expected upswing; Technology - Green hydrogen still unripe for industry; Interview with Thierry Lepercq 'an opportunity to re-industrialise our country'; Report - The three lessons of Energy Observer
Description
A first article outlines that, within a context of climatic emergency, due to the cost decrease of renewable energies and to the maturity of technologies, conditions are met for hydrogen to take its place in the world energy mix: several countries launched important plans for such a development (except Russia, the USA and Gulf countries which do not want to support it). One of the objective is to replace coal, and one of the main challenge is the reduction of production costs. In an interview, a manager of Alstom comments the introduction of commercial trains using hydrogen as a fuel to replace Diesel trains. An article proposes an overview of the development of hydrogen projects in different French regions to address air pollution, to reach carbon neutrality and to re-industrialise territories. In the same time, several automotive manufacturers propose hydrogen-propelled cars, buses and lorries: their number is expected to reach 10 to 15 millions vehicles by 2030. The problem remains competitiveness for the production of hydrogen by water electrolysis using renewable electricity. In an interview, an expert outlines that hydrogen is an opportunity to re-industrialise France. The last article discusses lessons learned from the Energy Observer experiment, a hydrogen-propelled catamaran which performs a zero-carbon sailing with a complete energy autonomy
