Decommissioning waste in the French National Inventory

According to French regulation, ANDRA has to issue every three years an inventory of radioactive waste and matters in France. This is an extension of the National Observatory that was established by the 1991 waste act in order to provide information to the public about the nature and the localisation of radioactive waste in France. Since the June 2006, 28 waste act, the National Inventory has been an input and a follow up tool for the National Plan for Waste Management in France. The National Inventory was issued in 2004 and in 2006. An update is planned in 2009. The National Inventory relies on statements by waste generators. It is related to all types of radioactive waste in the framework of the French classification and to all types of activities that generate them. It presents the summation of already generated waste volumes and forecast volumes for 2010 and 2020 in the 2006 version. Operational wastes and decommissioning wastes are not segregated in the National Inventory for already generated waste. However the National Inventory provides estimates for decommissioning waste for 2010 and 2020 as orders of magnitude beyond these dates. (author)
