Homogenization effect with the use of an eccentrically located gamma source in spherical irradiation geometry
Description
Simulation studies for irradiation of liquids like sugar cane juice in spherical geometry brings out the importance of absorption ( exponential attenuation ) of radiation field inside the gamma sample itself. It is necessary to look for methods to attempt average out the dose received by the sample. An ideal method is to homogenize the dose in the sample by agitation and churning of the sample. Under non-ideal conditions of agitation, when regular circular profiles for sample rotation may be produced, and complete homogenization is not obtained. The efficiency of this homogenization effect can be improved by the use of an eccentrically placed source, however the average radiation field in the sample are lesser. (author)
