Description

We have investigated the performance of the multistep avalanche chamber in combination with a solid converter foil of gadolinium for detection of 2.4 Angstroem thermal neutrons. High spatial resolution, 700 μm fwhm, reasonably good time stability, and low γ-ray sensitivity are among the promising features of this new kind of detector. (orig.)
