Determination of composition and melting points of eutectics in refractory metal (alloy) - silicon systems

Description

The temperature of contact melting of silicide phases on molybdenum, tungsten and TsM6, 5VMTs, TV-10 refractory alloys is determined for fixing the upper temperature limit of protective silicide coating operation. The existence of two eutectics: MoSi2+Mo5Si3 with 1890+-31 deg C melting temperature and Mo3Si+Mo-2050+-40 deg C is stated in Mo-MoSi2 system. The temperature of contact melting of silicide layers is a little lower on TsM6 alloy. The existence of two eutectics: WSi2+W5Si3 with 1950+-33 deg C and W+W5Si3-2070+-43 deg C melting temperature is also proved in W-WSi2 system. In the case of 5 VMTs alloy the eutectics on the base of Nb5Si3-NbSi2 is melted at 1900 +- 35 deg C. For TV-10 the liquid phase in the layer contact appears at 1980+-34 deg C; after cooling the melt has eutectic structure on the base of Ta5Si3 and TaSi
