Position sensitive detectors for small-angle neutron scattering
- 1. Kyushu Univ., Fukuoka (Japan). Dept. of Physics
Description
Two position sensitive neutron detectors have been developed and tested for use in small-angle neutron scattering experiments. One is a large detector of 510x510 mm2 and the other is a small one of 210x210 mm2, which is a scale model of the larger one. Both detectors are based on multi-wire proportional chambers filled with 3He-Ar-CO2(50-47.5-2.5%) at the pressure of 3x105 Pa. The counter gas is purified by heating metallic Ca shots. A delay line method is used for the position registration of detected neutrons. The spatial resolutions are 8 mm (FWHM) and 3 mm (FWHM) in the large detector and the small one, respectively. The detectors have a good performance enough for small-angle neutron scattering experiments. (author)
