Description
The present paper reports on operating experiences with the central helium refrigerating plant for cooling the 6.3 km long superconducting proton accelerator HERA in the course of 30,000 operating hours. It gives a summarising account of the operability and reliability of the refrigerating system and of the maintenance experience gained in the course of operation. Statements are made on failure frequency (mains supply, compressors, refrigerators, helium purification system, helium distribution system) and interruptions of the process control and data path systems. The paper also gives data on consumption of helium, liquid nitrogen, and electric energy as well as on the service life of compressor oils and adsorber media. The authors report on the stability of the system during normal operation and during interference through magnet quenches. (orig.)
Abstract (German)
Es wird ueber die Erfahrungen beim Betrieb der zentralen Heliumkaelteanlage zur Kuehlung des 6.3 km langen, supraleitenden Protonenbeschleunigers HERA waehrend 30000 Betriebsstunden berichtet. Die Verfuegbarkeit und Zuverlaessigkeit des Kaeltesystems ebenso wie die gesammelte Wartungserfahrung werden zusammenfassend dargestellt. Aussagen ueber die Haeufigkeit von Ausfaellen (Netzversorgung, Kompressoren, Kaeltemaschinen, Heliumreinigungssystem, Heliumverteilungssystem) sowie ueber Unterbrechungen im Prozesskontroll- und Datenwegsystem werden gegeben. Der Verbrauch an Helium, fluessigem Stickstoff und elektrischer Energie sowie Standzeiten von Kompressorenoelen und Adsorberfuellungen werden angegeben. Wir berichten ueber die Stabilitaet des Systems bei normalem Betrieb und bei Stoerungen durch Magnetquenche. (orig.)Additional details
