International seminar on the decommissioning of nuclear facilities

Fourteen papers, all of which are indexed separately, cover various aspects of the decommissioning of nuclear installations. Some specific projects are described and reviewed; the decommissioning of the Shipping Port reactor, the WAGR reactor and alpha facilities, and the refurbishment of a fuel reprocessing plant. More general research programmes in the European Community and regulatory procedures for decommissioning nuclear facilities are discussed. The entombment of the Chernobyl-4 reactor is also described in this section. Decommissioning policy and plans in the United Kingdom and the Federal Republic of Germany are considered. The implications for the practical aspects of decommissioning, including waste management and economic aspects are covered in the final session. (U.K.)
