A discussion on the proposal of construction of a verification facility at CIAE for the AD-RCNPS R and D
Description
ADS is a prospective innovative nuclear power system based on the development of high power proton accelerator and well developed technology of power reactor. Its advantage and benefit in respect of waste transmutation and fuel breeding were recognized by international nuclear community. ADS provides more flexibility from viewpoint of operation and control. To made ADS to be a reliable one, a series of important problem in the components of ADS--accelerator, reactor, material and neutron physics are enumerated. The R and D of a new nuclear power system is a long term activity, including conceptual study, verification of the principle, experimental facility, prototype and commercial demonstration. To construction a verification facility is an essential step in promoting the R and D of ADS from conceptual study to technical comprehension. A verification facility that consisted of a swimming pool reactor at CIAE driven by a pulsed low energy high current accelerator is proposed. According to those experiments that should be carried out at this facility, the specifications of accelerator and the modification of the reactor core structure are given
