Description
Photofission angular distribution studies in the near barrier region provides vital information of the low lying levels and shape of the fission barrier of even-even actinide nuclei because of their selectivity in spin i.e. E1 and E2. In particular, the fission of thorium isotopes does not show the general behaviour expected from the systematics and theory, which is termed as thorium-anomaly. Evidence for the existence of a complicated (triple or multiple) barrier was reported in the photofission work. However, the existing discrepancies in the photofission of 232Th for excitation energies in the vicinity of the barrier prompted the present work
