Direct and preequilibrium processes studied in the /sup 51/V(α,α'p) reaction at E/sub α/ = 172.5 MeV

Description
The reaction /sup 51/V(α,α'p) at E/sub α/ = 172.5 MeV is studied by measuring in-plane correlations at large angles. The data show the presence of two different reaction mechanisms: a direct proton knockout which was analyzed under the assumption of a quasifree process in terms of the distorted-wave impulse approximation and deep inelastic processes which were reproduced by exciton coalescence model calculations
