Experimental test of the law of gravitation at small distances

  • 1. Moskovskij Gosudarstvennyj Univ. (USSR). Nauchno-Issledovatel'skij Inst. Yadernoj Fiziki

Description

The possible deviation of the gravitation potential from the Newtonian form which appears in supergravitation theories, and also when some new hypothetical interaction contributing to the gravitation interaction are considered, have the form V(r)=-G∞(M/r) {1+αexp(-r/r0)}. An experiment is described for checking the law of gravitational interaction between two spherical masses separated by distance (between their centers) ranging from 3.8 to 6.5 mm. No dependence of the gravitational constant on the distance between the interacting masses is observed in the aforementioned range. Some restrictions on the the possible values of the parameters α and r0 which follow from the results of the present experiment are indicated
