Recent results on energy flow in nucleus-nucleus collisions
Description
Results are presented on energy flow and transverse energy distributions in nucleus-nucleus collisions at Elab/A=10 and 14.6 GeV. Data were taken with sampling calorimeters and a multi-element NaI detector of the E814 collaboration. The measured transverse energy distributions nearly exhaust the kinematic limits provided by a longitudinally expanding fireball. Analysis in terms of Landau hydrodynamics shows that at these beam energies complete stopping is observed in the average central collision of a light projectile (16O or 28Si) with a heavy target. This indicates that rather high energy and baryon densities are formed in the collision. Data will be compared to results from other AGS and CERN experiments
