Statistical decay of giant resonances
Description
Statistical calculations to predict the neutron spectrum resulting from the decay of Giant Resonances are discussed. The dependence of the results on the optical potential parametrization and on the level density of the residual nucleus is assessed. A Hauser-Feshbach calculation is performed for the decay of the monopole giant resonance in 208Pb using the experimental levels of 207Pb from a recent compilation. The calculated statistical decay is in excellent agreement with recent experimental data, showing that decay of this resonance is dominantly statistical, as predicted by continuum RPA calculations. Discutem-se os calculos estatisticos para prever o espectro de neutrons resultante do decaimento de resonancias gigantes. Analisa-se a dependencia dos resultados sobre a parametrizacao do potencial otico e sobre a densidade de nivel do nucleo residual. E feito o calculo de Hauser-Feshbach para o decaimento de ressonancia monopolo gigante no 208Pb usando os niveis experimentais do 207Pb de uma recente compilacao. O decaimento estatistico calculado esta em excelente acordo com os dados experimentais, mostrando-se que o decaimento desta ressonancia e dominantemente estatistico, como e previsto pelos calculos de RPA continuo.
