Investigation into heat conduction as a criterion of gas-kinetic theories

Description

In a moderately rarefied gas between hot and cold plates the molecular frequency distributions for the characteristic velocity vector were measured. The resulting moments of the distribution functions in the two velocity half spaces were compared with those which can be calculated from theoretical approaches. Only the four-moment method permits a meaningful comparison of theory and experiment, but overemphasizes the two-flow character of the problem. (orig.)

Abstract (German)

In einem maessig verduennten Gas zwischen heisser und kalter Platte werden die molekularen Haeufigkeitsverteilungen fuer den charakteristischen Geschwindigkeitsvektor gemessen. Die daraus ermittelten Momente der Verteilungsfunktion in den beiden Geschwindigkeitshalbraeumen werden denen gegenuebergestellt, die fuer dieses Problem aus theoretischen Ansaetzen berechnet werden koennen. Nur die 4-Momenten-Methode erlaubt einen sinnvollen Vergleich von Theorie und Experiment, ueberbetont aber den Zwei-Strom-Charakter des Problems. (orig.)
