Enhanced x-ray emission from focused high ν/γ electron beams
Description
Spatially resolved x-ray measurements using PIN diodes and x-ray pinhole cameras were used to study intense focused electron beams on the Hydra (1 MV, 300 kA) and Proto I (2 MV, 160 kA) accelerators. Anomalously high x-ray production from high ν/γ beams interacting with thick targets was observed. Possible mechanisms relating to magnetic stopping, plasma turbulence, and collective acceleration are discussed
