Observation of Σ/sub c/0 yields Λ/sub c/+π/sup -/ decays

Description

Using a sample of approximately 120Λ/sub c/+ yields pK/sup -/π+ decays reconstructed in photoproduction experiment E691 at Fermilab, we have searched for Σ/sub c/ production and decay into Λ/sub c/π. A signal of 14+-4 Σ/sub c/0 decays is observed. The Σ/sub c/0-Λ/sub c/+ mass difference is measured to be 168.4+-1.0+-0.3 MeV/c2. We also report on the relative fraction of Σ/sub c/ production as compared to inclusive Λ/sub c/ production at an average photon energy of 145 GeV
