Analysis of factors determining tendency to brittle local fractures of welded joints of austenitic steel

Description

Comparatively studied have been the structure, the variation nature of microhardness and mechanical properties as well as the deformation capability of the austenitic steel metal near-the seam zone (NSZ). The austenitic steel has been either stabilized or not stabilized with titanium (as compared with the basic metal). The 08Kh18N10T and Kh18N9 steels have been metallographically studied after welding both immediately and after a long holding at 550-750 deg C. The results that have been achieved allowed to point out the basic factors affecting the welded joint aptitude for local brittle destructions. Established have been the peculiarities explaining the different aptitude for the local destruction in the metal of the austenitic steel NSZ, when this steel has been either stabilized or not stabilized with titanium
