Description
In a method of processing adsorbing and removing radioactive nuclides by bringing liquid wastes into contact with chelate ion exchange resins (chelate resins), a plurality of adsorption columns are disposed in series to separate radioactive strontium. That is, after filtering radioactive liquid wastes, they are passed through, for examples two step serial chelate columns. When radioactive strontium is leaked from the chelate resin column at the subsequent stage, the resin column adsorbing only the radioactive strontium is treated with an acid for elution. It is then regenerated by treatment with an alkali. The eluted and regenerated liquid wastes are brought into contact with zeolite adsorbents to adsorb and fix the radioactive strontium. Leakage of strontium from the chelate resin column at the subsequent stage is detected by chemically detecting magnesium ions contained in the liquid. By the procedures as described above, radioactive strontium can be separated from other radioactive nuclides (Mn, Co, Zn, etc.). (I.S.)
