Method of processing radioactive liquid wastes
Description
Purpose: To prevent the reduction in the uranium removing rate due to the coexistence of hydrogen peroxide in the water glass precipitation process for liquid wastes, by adding any one of substances selected from alkali sulfite, hydrazine, manganese nitrate, ferric chloride and alkali hydroxide to radioactive liquid wastes. Method: After adding any one of substances selected from alkali sulfite, hydrazine, manganese nitrate, ferric chloride and alkali hydroxide to liquid wastes containing uranium under the coexistence of hydrogen peroxide, water glass is added to recover and remove uranium. Preferred amount for the addition of the above substance is 0.9 - 1.1 of equivalent required for the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide in the case of alkali sulfite; more than 1.1 of equivalent required for the reduction of hydrogen peroxide in the case of hydrazine and more than 0.15 and more than 0.25 by weight (calculated as Mn, Fe value) to the weight of hydrogen peroxide in the case of manganese nitrite and ferric chloride respectively.
