Carcinoid tumor scans with I-131 MIBG in 60 patients

Description

Sixty patients with pathologically proven carcinoid tumors were studied with 1-131 MIBG. Localized activity was scored from 0 to 3+ (normal liver = 2+). MIBG uptake was variable, with no specific patterns, except that no bronchial carcinoids accumulated MIBG. Locations of the primary tumors were stomach (1-3+ in two of four), pancreas (1-3+ in four), cecum (3+ in two of two), appendix (0 in one of one), jejunum (0 in one of one), Meckel diverticulum (3+ in one of one), terminal ileum (2-3+ in 13 of 21), bronchus (0 in seven of seven), unknown (2-3+ in 11 of 19). There was no relationship of MIBG uptake to the presence of the carcinoid syndrome in 37 patients
