Electron-beam relaxation in a Penning discharge with a rotational plasma instability

Description
An experimental study has been made of the effect of the rotational instability on the relaxation of a primary electron beam and on the form of the electron energy distribution of the plasma in a Penning discharge with a thermionic cathode. The accelerated beam relaxation and heating of plasma electrons result from a growth of high-frequency waves excited by the beam during the growth of low-frequency waves of the m = 1 mode in the plasma. Reasons for the growth of the high-frequency waves are discussed
