Thermally stimulated exoelectron emission and thermoluminescence in NaF single crystals

Description

The emission process of the TSEE in NaF is discussed from the results of simultaneous recording of TSEE and TL glow curves and the spectal measurements of the TL. Both TSEE and TL glow peaks are observed at 185 K, 230 K and 315 K. These glow peaks of TSEE seem to relate to the σ band of the self-trapped exciton (STE) or impurity perturbed STE which is the origin of these glow peaks of TL. An Auger-like decay of such an STE may possibly give rise to these TSEE. The intense TSEE glow peak observed at 610 K may be due to 'Maxwell-tail' escape of electrons in the conduction band released from F centres. (author)
