Interim design procedures for the avoidance of thermal striping damage in fast breeder reactor components
Description
Interim procedures for the avoidance of thermal striping damage to fast reactor components fabricated from AISI 316L (N) SPH are presented. The CEA procedure takes account of the reduction in fatigue endurance at high cycle (> 104) and low strain range resulting from the superposition of low cycle high strain ranges from operating cycles. The AEA approach adopts avoidance of growth of short surface defects due to thermal striping by assuming a threshold stress intensity factor. A curve relates allowable strain range to low cycle fatigue damage fraction from other operating fatigue cycles. (author)
