Description
Composites based on ethylene-propylene-diene rubber (EPDM) were prepared. EPDM was reinforced with 40 phr fumed silica and enhanced with 5 phr of Trimethylol propane trimethacrylate (TMPTMA) as a co agent in the presence of different concentrations of epoxidized linseed oil ranging between 4 and 8 phr. The composites were subjected to different gamma-irradiation doses up to 200 kGy. The physical and mechanical properties of rubber composite as a function of irradiation dose were investigated. Gamma-irradiation led to a significant improvement in the properties of the all compositions. Besides, an improvement in the properties was attained by the addition of 6 phr of epoxidized linseed oil and/or 5 phr of TMPTMA, especially at low irradiation doses.
