Determination of technetium by reduction of methylene blue with tin(II)

  • 1. Univ. of Palma de Mallorca, Spain

Description

The reduction of methylene blue with tin(II) is shown to be catalyzed by the presence of technetium. Technetium also causes quenching in the fluorescence of the colorless reduced reagent formed. These reactions have been investigated and as a consequence kinetic and fluorometric methods for technetium determination are developed. The recommended procedures have been applied to the direct determination of technetium in a synthetic nuclear fuel and in seawater
