Spatially Dependent Spectra in Solutions of Cadmium in Heavy Water

Description

To check different scattering models for heavy water, measurements of the spatial dependence of the steady-state neutron spectrum in solutions of cadmium have been made. The spectra were measured in slab geometry at various distances from a plane source. Calculations based on Sn theory were made using the free-gas model, the Nelkin-Honeck model and the Haywood scattering kernel. It was found that the Haywood kernel fitted the experimental data best.
