Security of energy supply and role of nuclear energy

  • 1. Inst. of Applied Energy, Tokyo (Japan)

Description

Basic concept of security of energy supply and its evaluation method were reviewed. Energy security was a broad concept and a comprehensive method to compare the levels of energy security in advanced seven countries was shown using different five indices such as energy efficiency, diversity of energy supply sources, Middle East and Russia dependency, self-sufficiency and carbon dioxide emission. Analysis of energy crises in East Asia was introduced assuming 'Two China in 2015' using a scenario planning method. Role or potential of nuclear energy to cope with long-term problems such as global warming was discussed with an energy system simulation until 2100, which evaluated effects of environmental conditions (carbon dioxide limitation, nuclear power generation cost and market economy) on nuclear power introduction.
