Description

Description of the activities of Radioactive Waste Management Agency (RATA) in 2006 is presented. RATA was established for management and final disposal of all transferred to it radioactive waste, generated by the Ignalina NPP during its operation and decommissioning, as well as to collect, process and finally dispose of radioactive waste from scientific research and health care institutions and industries. Main issues discussed in the report are: environmental impact assessment of a near-surface repository; constructing a model of near-surface repository; analyzing characteristics of radioactive wastes due to be disposed of in a near-surface repository; analysis of possibilities of constructing a repository for long-lived radioactive waste; management of radioactive waste from small producers and other
