Storage containers for use in radioactive wastes
Description
Purpose: To obtain storage containers for use in radioactive wastes light in the weight, easy to handle with and excellent in the heat resistance by improving concrete or lead-lined conventional drum cans. Constitution: Radiation shielding members bormed with metal coatings comprising at least one of lead, iron tin, boron, nickel, aluminum, chromium and copper are lined in parallel to the inner surface of a thinner wall of porous structures comprising a plurality of thin ceramic walls each laminated with a predetermined gap. The porous structures are made of a ceramic honeycomb and the metal coatings can be applied to the thin wall by any of the methods such as dipping or plating. Use of high melting metals as the metal coatings, coupled with the porous structure made of ceramics, enables to obtain storage containers excellent in the heat resistance, light in the weight and easy to handle with.
